This past Saturday I had the pleasure of helping to promote Shastra sustainable living boutique. We were there for a few hours during the day, inviting customers in, taking pictures, trying on garments and jewelry, talking about all the wonderful thing this establishment stands for, all while enjoying wine and cheese. This place is a breath of fresh air, everything in the store, from the floor to the sealing is organic and hand made by artisans. The garments are designed in the back of the house by head designer Jose Mireles and then sent out for reproduction. Anu Agarwal, the store owner was able to cut out the middle man which allowed her to pay the artisans a fare wage. I am always looking for ways to give back and knowing exactly where the product that I have purchased came from, who made it and where the money is going is important. Not only Anu is a Fare Trade Federation member, she is also a supporter of many more organizations that help disabled children and empower artisans like the Living Dreams Foundation.
