As I've mentioned before... I hate working out. There are people out there that will do 2 hours at the gym 4 times a week, every week. I'm definitely not one of those people! Once I bought a gym membership for a full year and did not go once... So when my friend signed me up for a kickboxing trial (which was $15 for 5 classes), I thought I'd get through the 5 classes and forget about it.
But to my surprise I loved it!
The class starts with good ol' cardio... Jogging, squads, push ups, planks, basically a total body workout. Second part of class is my favorite, it is when I get to kick and punch the shit out of a bag. This is also a great way to relive stress that have accumulated through the week. It feels great to be able to beat up your problems (like your boss perhaps), on a bag. Any vigorous exercise will release endorphins, however being in a high-energy group setting enhances these feel-good chemicals.

Kickboxing has a large toning component because you are engaging all the muscle groups in your body. Each move requires a lot of core power behind it, enabling you to strengthen your back and trim your waist. Engaging your core will also ultimately improve coordination and flexibility.
Although this class is mainly focuses on health and fitness, there is a self defense aspect to it as well. The instructors do a great job at teaching how to hold your form and to use your muscles to deliver maximum impact behind each punch and kick. I find it very empowering to have the ability to protect my self if the need be.
Forget burning a hole in that treadmill and the same boring routine at the gym. These guys crank up the music and switch up the drill every day. One day it's the side kick the next it's the biznatch slap.
